About LIDFAS
Meetings
Our first meeting was in October 2000. Since then our membership has reached 150 members who attend regularly. All events are also open to non-members who are always welcome.
Special Interest or Study DaysThese are held twice a year. The aim is to look at a subject in greater depth than is possible in a lecture and to give members the opportunity to consider and discuss original material with an expert. We have enjoyed a day on 'The Victorian Kitchen', learnt more about 'Mozart in Salzburg' and 'How to Look at Paintings'.
Visits and ToursWe arrange 3-4 one day visits to places of interest for our members each year and plan at least one tour each season.
Heritage VolunteersSmall groups of LIDFAS volunteers take part in projects in the locality, such as making an inventory with digital photographs of all the furniture and artefacts in the loft of Mount Edgcumbe House. The resulting listing and CD will enable the Mount Edgcumbe trustees to make informed decisions on how to use these objects.
Church RecordersChurches all over the country are being recorded by NADFAS members. This entails recording the fabric of the church and every artefact in it. In our area volunteers have spent 2 years working in St Hugh’s Church at Quethiock (near Liskeard) to complete a record for the church.
Young ArtsWe offer financial support for arts activities for young people in the area. Recent projects include supporting Torpoint School’s GCSE Art Exhibition and summer holiday workshops at Liskeard Library. The workshops included mask making for the 5-9 years and a clay workshop for those aged 9-14. |
